Overview of Recreation and Parks Master Plan

The Recreation and Parks Master Plan guides investments and priorities for recreation and park services to the year 2031. Specifically, the RPMP:

  • Updates the 2007 Master Plan in light of changes to local demographics, sector trends, new parks and facilities, and changes in public preferences
  • Creates a future vision for the Pickering Village Community Centre & Arena, Ajax Community Centre and Audley Recreation Centre Phase 3;
  • Helps the Town of Ajax and community partners provide a mix of recreation and parks facilities, programs, and services for residents to engage in meaningful activities while positioning the Town to attract visitors and investment to the community
  • Contains 48 recommendations that will be brought forward for implementation through annual and long-range budgeting processes



Notable Elements of Ajax's Recreation & Parks System:

  • 3 Major Multi-Use Community Centres (ACC, MCC, ARC) containing arenas, indoor aquatics, gymnasiums and fitness centres along with the Pickering Village Arena & Seniors Centre
  • 215 hectares of active parkland under management plus 13 hectares identified through approved plans of subdivision
  • 47 rectangular fields, 24 ball diamonds and 1 cricket pitch
  • 17 tennis courts (2 lined for pickleball) and 19 basketball courts
  • 6 splash pads and 1 outdoor pool
  • 80 playgrounds
  • 8 parks with outdoor fitness equipment
  • 3 skateboard parks, 3 leash-free parks and 1 community garden
