Major Transit Station Areas (MTSAs) are areas including and around any existing or planned higher order transit station or stop, typically within the surrounding 500 to 800-metre radius (representing about a 10-minute walk).

A Protected Major Transit Station Area (PMTSA) is an MTSA that has been delineated by a municipality and subsequently approved by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (Province), as “protected” to allow for Inclusionary Zoning to be utilized. PMTSAs are supported as key areas for compact, mixed-use development that promote public transit, active transportation and housing diversity.
