• Your Voice

This section is dedicated to amplifying Black and racialized Voices. Your Voice is important. Leave a suggestion, concern, or idea about dismantling structural racism in our Town. This tool is also intended to eliminate barriers for those who feel strongly about eliminating racism but are not able to engage in traditional ways. This section was created at the suggestion of a local resident. We are listening.

To ensure that the curriculum taught in schools reflect the contribution of Black individuals throughout history.

I would like to see a Black Museum or Cultural Centre be developed and built in Durham. This Museum or Cultural Centre would include Black history and accomplishments and serve as a centre that can encourage the development of Black youth. It will also serve as an education centre that facilitates the learning of Black history for the region and the greater GTA. Can you imagine busloads of students coming to this centre to learn about our history? Awesome!

Treat all students equally in the school system. Many times the expectation for black students is that they will not do well in school.
