TOA is in the process of reviewing permit applications from Bell Canada and their subcontractors for installing fibre connections in the Town-owned boulevards. This project will upgrade existing internet connections to provide fibre access to approximately 38,000 homes and businesses in Ajax representing a $64 million investment in the Town!

Work is expected to begin Spring 2023 and will be completed in the Town-owned boulevards, mostly at the end of residential driveways. This work will be confined (wherever possible) to existing seams between sidewalk and driveways, between grass and driveway and between interlock brick to minimize restoration work. Bell will be responsible for restoring the boulevard to its previous condition, including the replacement of grass with sod, as well as asphalt repairs in driveway aprons. Some grade-level boxes will be installed in the boulevard as well. Additionally, each permit request is reviewed by the Town’s technical staff to ensure things such as trip hazards, sightline issues and other safety considerations in the Town-owned boulevards are identified and addressed for residents, pedestrians, and drivers in the area.

As part of this process, Bell will request permission from homeowners to access their properties if they wish to connect their homes to the fibre that is being installed in the boulevard – please note this is not mandatory and requires consent from you as the homeowner.
