Bayly Street Multi-use path

Project Descriptions

  • New asphalt trail construction on north side of Bayly Street from Harwood Avenue to Salem Road
  • Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program (OMCC) funded
  • Construction commencement: July 2021
  • Project completion: Week of September 6 (weather permitting)

Project Update

The construction of the multi-use trail along Bayly Street will provide a continuous connection between Ajax and Whitby. This multi-use trail will ultimately extend to Westney Road, connecting residents with the Ajax Go station.

During the design process, the Town and its Consultant looked at various options, recognizing the Region's plan to widen Bayly Street to six (6) lanes in the coming years. Based on the future road widening requirements, combined with property and utility conflicts on the south side of Bayly Street, the north side was determined to be the preferred location.

The Town held a Public Information Session on June 25, 2019 to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the detailed design and answer any questions or concerns. During the meeting, it was communicated that the removal of the trees was required to accommodate the construction of the multi-use trail and that the Town was planning to provide tree compensation in-lieu of the trees being removed.
