Audley Recreation Centre (ARC) Phase 2 - Grand Opening


The Town is celebrating the expansion of Audley Recreation Centre (ARC) with its phase 2 opening on Saturday, November 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. Join Ajax Council at 1:30 p.m. for the official ceremony and celebration cupcakes.

Two special giveaways are planned - the first 300 guests will receive a limited edition tote bag, and a Family Reading Prize will be given to the 300th customer to register for a new library card.

Opened in June 2013, the state-of-the-art Audley Recreation Centre (ARC) has become a popular community hub and destination for residents and visitors.

To continue to meet the growing recreational and community needs, Ajax Council has approved the ARC phase two $30 million expansion*. Designed by award-winning firm MJMA Architects, the addition to this impressive contemporary facility will enhance programming, services and amenities.

Branch Library

The new 15,000 sq. ft. modern library facility will offer large, comfortable reading and working areas, private and collaborative study rooms, homework centres and internet and wireless-enabled workstations. The flexible and multi-use space will feature modular and ergonomic furniture, wide aisles, lower shelving, and natural light to create an open interior design.

Active Living Area

The new 5,000 sq. ft. active living studio is designed as a unique leading edge, multi-functional space that will accommodate concurrent programs. Diverse classes for all levels and abilities will be offered including dance, yoga, cycling, sports conditioning, TRX training system balance/strength and virtual programs.

Community Rooms

The 14,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose community rooms will be located on the eastern end of ARC and will feature a dedicated entrance off the expanded parking lot. The three rooms are separated by overhead partitions. The rooms can accommodate 150/150/200 people. Amenities include a warming kitchen, coat storage, audio/visual technology and washrooms.

LEED Certification

To align with the existing facility, phase two will be designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Initiatives incorporated within the design of the building and park include stormwater management, water conservation, energy reduction, waste management and use of recycled content, enhanced indoor air quality and an interactive education kiosk.

Off-Leash Dog Park

To be located north of the parking lot, and adjacent to the ball diamonds, a new park will provide a fenced off-leash space for dogs.

Outdoor Amenities

To complement the outdoor amenities, the existing splash pad and parkland will be expanded. In addition, new courtyards and shade structures will provide comfortable seating areas.

Approximately 225 additional parking spots will be added. In keeping with the Town's commitment to sustainability, four Electric Vehicle charging stations will also be installed.
