CreateAbility Art Contest Winners

The Town of Ajax Accessibility Advisory Committee and Ajax Public Library want to thank everyone who participated in the CreateAbility Art Contest and for all of the beautiful submissions received expressing what inclusion of people with disabilities means to you. Congratulations to our three contest winners:

  • 'We are all Able' by Christina C.
"My work expresses my feelings that special moments like graduation recognize the efforts of everyone, ad also give hope that every person no matter the obstacles they face, can reach as high as they can dream.”

Art contest entry of pencil crayon depicting four students wearing gradulation caps and gowns, all with different disabilities. Caption reads, "See my ability, see my potential, see my future".

  • 'Dream Big' by Danika R.
“No matter what others think you can’t do because you have a disability and they don’t, they are not better than you we’re all equal. SHOW THEM THAT THEY’RE WRONG!!.”

Art contest entry of three students, one in a wheel chair on a cloud above the world. A hand in the bottom left holds two small hearts. A quote from Misty Copeland reads: "You can dream big and it doesn't matter what you look like or where you come from".

  • 'Relentless' by Doris S.
“I have submitted a watercolour rendition of a photograph of my son rock climbing after a devastating injury caused by a hit-and-run drunk driver. Inclusion of differently abled people to me is Acceptance, Choice, Freedom, Participation, Respect, Equity, Concession, Unobstructed and Enabled.”

Art contest entry of watercolour and pen and ink depicting a person with no lower left leg rock climbing up a wall. Some of the stones on the wall are marked by words including respect, equity, freedom, participation, and inclusion

Each of these artists received a $50 gift card to Michaels Canada.
