2019 - 2022 Safer Ajax - Community Safety Strategy

The Town of Ajax is a committed leader in community safety and well-being in Ajax. For the past 11 years, the Town has led community safety strategies alongside many dedicated organizations and stakeholders that make up the official “Partners in Community Safety” Team.

In partnership with the Durham Regional Police Service, the Town has been working on the new 2019-2022 Safer Ajax - Community Safety Strategy, focusing on the following key areas:

  • Incident Response - immediate response to urgent incidents
  • Risk Intervention - mitigating elevated risk situations involving multiple sectors working together to address situations where there is an elevated risk of harm
  • Prevention - reducing identified risks by proactively implementing evidence-based situational measures, policies and programs to reduce locally identified risks to safety and well-being
  • Social development - long term, multi-disciplinary efforts and investments to improve social determinates of health, and addressing social issues

As community safety is a complex issue that is ever evolving, it requires collaborative investment by municipal leaders, service providers, community organizations, and residents. By sharing this responsibility, each person and sector plays a role in protecting and promoting healthy outcomes in our community.

Evidence-based strategies to address Adverse Childhood Experiences(ACEs) already exist. Consider what other sub-groups would be crucial to include to implement strategies to address root causes of ACEs in our community in order to have the greatest ROI.
